The Wahas are fast emerging as the new buzz band for 2008. Taking their cue from such legendary acts as My Bloody Valentine and The Birthday Party, The Wahas have formed their own unique sound incorporating noisy pop guitars and psychedelic melodies with the retro jangle of tambourine. And all performed with the reckless abandonment of teenagers on the verge of something big. Formed in 2006 after meeting at high school, their young ages and precocious talent have seen them ascend through the ranks at breakneck speed. Starting out as headliners at Sydney’s School of Rock gig, The Wahas scored themselves a slot at Luna Park’s Come Together Festival just a few months later. After being personally selected by UK band The Horrors to support them at their Sydney shows, The Wahas have gone from strength to strength and have now racked up supports with local favourites such as Operator Please, Faker, Children Collide, Ghostwood, Mercy Arms and The Panics. Performances at some of Sydney’s premier band nights such as Boom Boom Mega Boom and The Filth have also caused a stir amongst Sydney’s tastemakers and after only a short time on the scene, The Wahas are quickly proving they have just what it takes. Their debut EP ‘We Love The Wahas’ was released independently in 2007 with the single ‘New Suit’ receiving airplay on Triple J, FBi, 3RRR and 3ZZZ and the clip airing on Rage. The Wahas have also been touted by The Music Network as one of the bands to watch for 2008 and were recently featured in Blunt Magazines annual yearbook for 2007.
