Papa Vs Pretty started as Tom Rawle a 17 year old that started out as a drummer at the age of 4 and now plays anything that you throw at him and turns it into wonderfully creative music. Over the last 2 years he begun calling himself Papa Vs Pretty and got together withvarious musicians to perform the songs live as a band. Tom literally is Papa Vs Pretty, he writes, records and produces the large majority of Papa Vs Prettys work, and his innocence and somewhat Unexposed nature adds to his unique musicianship and song writing skills. Since the start of the year Papa Vs Pretty has turned into a 3 piece band and now has fulltime members, Gus Gardener (Bass) Tom Myers (drums). Papa Vs Pretty’s sound pans a huge variety of genres including rock, electronic, jazz, artwave and even fifties inspired pop. Listening to influences such as Pavement, Elliot Smith, Aphex Twin, RadioHead, The Reels, Roxy Music and Air, the bands musical knowledge extends of generations and genres, now reflective in their unique music style. They have played a large variety of venues including The Factory Theatre, Candys Apartments, the Abercrombie, Bar Broadway, Museum of Contemporary Art and The Hopetoun. Supported bands like The Marching Room, Teenagers in Tokyo and The Knife Machine and more recently supported Dappled Cities, 78Sabb and Malclom Middleton on his Sydney Leg of a world tour. With reviewers finding the band through the world of MySpace, blogs and Unearthed websites, they seemed to have cottoned on to the music coming from these guys pretty quickly, with Triple J’s Linda Marigliano saying “I'm definitely keeping an eye on these boys. They're gutsy, a little dark and great to watch live…one of those young energetic bands that make you feel old and untalented, ya know?
